Shandong Sun Paper is a Chinese giant paper mill. The mega-project of 100,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantation in the province of Savannakhet (Laos Central) has already obtained government approval: 30,000 hectares will be given to the company for fifty years, the rest will be grown by local farmers on their own land their, under contract with Sun Paper. The $ 15 million project will start in the coming months.


"We plan also to build a new paper mill in the of Xepon Phin district" said Deputy President of Guang Ying Dong to the Vientiane Times. Sun Paper plans to invest between 300 and 500 million dollars, and to reach a production capacity of 300,000 tons of pulp. The plant will be the largest pulp mill in the world, employing 100,000 people, although they will not be recruited locally: most of them will be brought over from Vietnam. Sun Paper has a production capacity of 2.2 million tonnes, making it the largest Chinese paper industry.
